Katy Perry debuted the When I’m Gone video at the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship halftime. Midway into the video Swedish Producer DJ Alesso makes a dramatic entrance into the factory. Joined by dancers, she sings, “Thought it would be easy / Easy to forget me / Let go of the memories / Now your bed is empty / And you’re waking up, sweating / I’m still in your wild dreams.”
Perry changes into a brown mini dress and white boots in the factory with her signature dark hair flowing down her back. The video opens up with Perry on the phone in a phone booth, and she says, “You know, I think it’s just time to give them everything they want.” Just as the song starts to play in the background, she drops the phone and strides out of the booth into a factory with her robot dog. “The way that he showed up for him (Flynn) and continues to show up for him, and the efforts that he makes and the distance he goes, I think that’s one of the reasons I made that conscious decision…I was like, ‘Here’s the father of my future children,'” Perry said. The video released on Monday features fabulous costumes and vibrant dance moves. The “Teenage Dream” singer also revealed that watching Bloom be a father to his 10-year-old son Flynn from a previous marriage showed her that he was a forever partner. “I had 35 years of calling the shots and doing what I wanted to do, zipping all over the world and taking care of my career…it was amazing to live big and wild, but sometimes it’s nice just to throw the ball on the grass and watch your daughter laugh from the simple joys of the dog coming and bringing it back,” said Perry. She says she’s come to realize she was apprehensive about her whole world changing. “I was nervous to be a mom,” Perry said in an interview with L’Officiel.
